Read ....

I'm back. Sorry for the absence, but I am back now. I promise.

As we all already know, May 21st was the day an American preacher, Harold Camping had scheduled for the Rapture and Judgement of the world. He had told his followers that the event would take place at 6pm all over the world.

A lot of people believed him. People sold and gave away their possessions in anticipation of the rapture. Really sad and rather unfortunate.

There is nothing wrong with looking forward to the coming of Christ, but what is wrong is believing a man who claims to have calculated the date of His return when Christ Himself said explicitly in Matt 24, emphasis on verse 36, ''No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father''.

So if Jesus Himself doesn't know, how can a man, a mere mortal know? And how was he able to convince Christians who should know better?

This brings me to my point. The reason why a lot of Christians fell for this false prophesy is simple : A lot of us today do not Study (note study, not read) the Word.
We only open our Bibles on Sundays when in church and we rely completely on what our spiritual leaders tell us. Is there anything wrong with going to church? No. Is there anything wrong with listening to our Pastors and Priests? Of course not.

But it gets dangerous when the only time you read the Word is when your Pastor or Priest says so. When you swallow everything you hear in Church without cross checking it with the Word and asking the Holy Spirit for understanding in your own spare time.

You see brethren we are living in dangerous times. The Bible tells us that in the last there will be many false doctrines, false religions and false teachers. Jesus also warned in the same Matt 24(vs 24) that in the last days ''false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect'' (paraphrased by me).

If the elect can fall, do you see how great this deception will be?. My mother always tells us the importance of reading the Bible and studying the Word. She says, 'if you don't know the original thoroughly, when the counterfeit is given to you, you won't know''.

I really think that sums it up. In the times that we are in, what we truly need is the Everlasting, Unchanging, Powerful Word of God. The Word brings light and we need all the light that we can in this dark world.

So study the Word today. Read it. Love it. Teach yourself. Meditate on it. Digest it. Absorb it into your spirit. Above all, let it be ''a light to thy feet and a lamp to thy path''. Ps 119:105.

Shalom!
